Education
As a result of our contacts with recognized organizations and
renowned specialists, we are sometimes involved in meetings and
other events related to diving and underwater vehicle activities.
We may also participate as a speaker or coordinator in certain
meetings, depending on the topics discussed.
In addition, Christian Cadieux, the founder of CCO Ltd, is also the
creator of the Diving and ROV Specialists website (https://diving-rov-
specialists.com/), an independent and non-profit platform dedicated
to promoting the authors of scientific and technical documents, along
with their publishers and equipment manufacturers, by offering
reliable, free, and unbiased information.
This project originated from the following findings:
- The knowledge of many personnel involved in our activities is
limited to only the standards and guidelines provided by
national and professional organizations, leading to
monocultural behaviors and a lack of theoretical knowledge,
which can become hazardous under unfamiliar working
conditions.
- Some documents from professional organizations contain errors
and endorse practices that are not scientifically validated and can
sometimes be dangerous. It should be noted that these
organizations often do not document the sources on which the
texts they promote are based, or rely on circular references.
- Furthermore, these inappropriate guidelines are sometimes
referenced by companies, and occasionally by civil servants
appointed by governments to draft their standards, resulting in
dangerous or undocumented practices being adopted as
norms..
The following posts, which are available in the section “Food for
thought” on the home page, illustrate the philosophy of this website:
- "About Standards" describes the reason for standards, how they
can be deviated from for the benefit of pressure groups, and
what should be done to prevent this from happening.
- “Promoting Inherently Safe Design And Deference To Expertise
In Commercial Diving: A Call To Action”, by Doctor Jean Yves
Massimelli, highlights deviant and dangerous practices in the
diving industry and urges the promotion of inherently safe
design in commercial diving practices, including methods,
equipment, tools, and procedures.
- “Search For Reference Documents For Manuals And Procedures”
highlights the fact that while standards and guidelines have
fostered significant advances, they often result in monocultural
behavior, and also emphasizes the crucial point that compliance
with a government standard does not absolve an employer of
responsibility. A list of scientific and technical publishers is
provided to encourage readers to diversify their sources.
- “Evolution and Performance of The Comex Tables”, by jean Pierre
Imbert, describes the creation and evolution of the COMEX
tables , particularly the treatment table Cx 30.
- "About the International Maritime Organization - 2023 Diving
Code" discusses the content and potential impact of the
International Maritime Organization (IMO) Resolution MSC.548
(107), "International Code of Safety for Diving Operations", also
known as the "2023 Diving Code".
The Diving and ROV Specialist web site offers a large database of
